Wickham was named after Benjamin Wickham, who owned the land in 1842. The property is located at the heart of the premium wine growing region McLaren Vale, along Wickham Hill Road, McLaren Flat of South Australia.
Benjamin Wickham sailed out from England with his wife & three of his children on the “Africaine” in 1836, initially living their lives in Glenelg, then Adelaide, before moving to Reedbeds, and finally settling in the McLaren Vale region on a sheep station, which later had cattle, horses and pigs and grew wheat.
Benjamin‟s son, Daniel, inherited Wickham from his father in 1875.
After more than 60 years of working the land, the Wickham family sold the property to George Saubier who founded South Australia’s first pure Southdown sheep stud and built the iconic heritage homestead that remains the heart of the estate to this day.
Wickham Park is now a 112 acre Australian native bushland property where our premium vineyards lie, producing iconic and award winning McLaren Vale varieties including Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
The property’s farm complex built in the 1800’s and 1900’s, is heritage listed and protected.
